Editorial policy & independence
How we research, date, correct and pay for what we publish.
1. Sources
Every number links to its source — automaker sites, fueleconomy.gov, government programs and independent tests — and shows the date we checked it.
2. What we won’t publish
A number we couldn’t confirm against a primary source. Where only a secondary report exists, we leave the number off the page until we can confirm it (see the methodology).
3. Corrections
Tell us when something is wrong. We fix it, date the fix and list it on the corrections log.
4. Money
There are no ads on the site today. We plan to fund it with display ads; when we do, advertisers will have no say in what we write or which cars we recommend. We take no money from dealers or carmakers.
