For most people the answer comes down to one question: can you charge where you park? Here are the three honest outcomes.
Checked Sep 28, 2026 · J.D. Power EVC 2026
You park at a house and can charge there, your daily drive is well inside a car’s winter range, and long trips are monthly or less often.
You charge at work or at an apartment or street spot, a standard outlet covers most days but not your longest, or you take long trips weekly. An EV can work — pick for fast charging and Supercharger access.
No home or work charging, or a standard outlet that can’t keep up with your daily miles. An EV still works — you’d rely on public charging, which can cost as much as gas. We show you the real numbers and the EVs that make it easiest.
In J.D. Power’s 2026 study of 8,154 people planning to buy or lease, the top reasons for rejecting an EV were charging availability (46%), charging time (44%) and price (42%). The first two mostly come down to where you park.
